Barrett, Jon C. – Pocatello, Idaho 2008

Well-known Pocatello resident Jon Barrett was reported missing in early November 2008 by a family member who came by to check on him. His van was missing, home unlocked, lights on, and pet dogs present. The next day, his van was found back at his house, but Jon was still missing. Anyone who knew Jon, knew he took his dogs everywhere with him.  A few days after his disappearance, an acquaintance of Barrett’s, Randall Toone, used Barrett’s debit card in Idaho Falls. Toone was eventually located in Nevada, was questioned and subsequently charged.  He maintains he had permission to use the card.

Many think Toone knows more about Barrett’s disappearance than he has admitted to. Allegedly, Barrett was at the casino in Fort Hall shortly before his disappearance. It is not known if he went alone or with an acquaintance.

IDAHO FALLS – The man detectives say is the last person in contact with missing John Barrett pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning.

Bonneville County Prosecutor Dane Watkins said Randall Toone used Barrett’s debit card in Idaho Falls just one day after Barrett was reported missing in Pocatello.  Toone is facing grand theft, forgery of a financial transaction card, and fraudulent use of a financial transaction card. Prosecutors said Toone used Barrett’s Bank of America debit card at Ross Dress for Less on November 10, 2008 and charged less than $20. Toone’s attorney, John Cutler said Toone had permission to use the card.
The jury trial will start at the end of July.
